Navigating Through Life Post-pandemic

Who knew the world would experience such a drastic change in late 2019? The world's events include wars, rising energy, and fuel costs. For the UK, leaving the European Union was a huge deal. And to top it all off, a deadly virus spread worldwide with devastating consequences. Anyone with chronic health conditions would be in for a stormy ride. I was worried about how my allergies would be affected.

My allergies were under control during lockdown

Lockdown due to the pandemic meant that I didn't leave my apartment. Even my medications and groceries were delivered and left on my doorstep. I was not exposing myself to the outside world, which meant that my allergies were actually under control. Once the first lockdown eased up and ended, we were allowed to be around "bubbles" of people.

When the lockdown ended

At this point, I might have gotten infected with COVID-19. My health suddenly plummeted, big time. I had constant eye infections, and my breathing was worryingly short and labored. I felt like I couldn't get enough air into my lungs. My eczema was off-the-charts bad. I was having dark thoughts at the time and was struggling to cope. And I was also deeply concerned about how I would get back into society when the lockdowns ended.

My immune system was shot to bits

Towards the end of the third round of lockdowns, my allergy symptoms were at an all-time high. My hay fever was constant. I was on a load of medications to try and alleviate my eye infections; to top it off; I developed shingles.

To put it bluntly, I was in a right mess. Over time, these events weakened my immune system, and I couldn't fight infections. The UK was seemingly returning to some kind of normalcy dealing with COVID-19. This was causing me extreme stress. I needed to seriously get better.

Making a health plan

When I feel low health-wise, the one thing that can get me back on my feet is by changing up my diet. When I eat more nutrient-dense foods, I start to feel better. I ordered some of Jason Vale's juices. If anyone has never heard of these drinks, they are basically smoothies made from plants and fruits.

Vegetables like spinach, kale, broccoli, and cucumbers are incorporated into the juices. Blueberries, pineapples, apples, and avocados are also ingredients in the juices, along with ginger. Ginger acts as a natural antihistamine and is a great ingredient to add to your diet if you live with allergies.

Getting in my servings of fruits and vegetables and a fantastic medication my primary care doctor provided helped me slowly but surely get healthier. I made a plan to exercise more by walking daily.

Maintaining health after lockdown

When the time came to get back into society and end lockdowns, I was in an okay place but still quite concerned that being around others again would undo all my hard work. I ensured I wore a mask whenever possible and kept my distance from people.

Thankfully things have worked out okay so far.
