Plastic silverware allergy

Hi, ! I am not aware of a community member that has shared about this particular allergy/sensitivity, but I don't know every member here personally, so I hope if someone has some familiarity with this issue, they will see your post and chime in here. It is definitely possible to have an allergy/sensitivity to plasticware. I am not sure if researchers have pinpointed all the potential allergens, since plastic production can use a number of chemical compounds, depending on the type of plastic and its intended use (ie, a microwave safe plastic plate may not be manufactured in the same was a plastic cup or plastic spoon). Some of the suspected culprits are often BPA and/or phthalates. Now, when it comes to the paint or finish question, that's more of a challenge. Most companies don't disclose the chemical make up of the paint used on/in their plasticware, nor are they required to do so by law. It's like cosmetic companies can just list 'fragrance' as an ingredient and not expand on what that means.


It very well may be that the particular paint used on silver coated plasticware is causing the issue, but it may be hard for you to know that for sure without doing some serious digging.


I am sorry I couldn't offer you a clear yes or no answer to your original question, but I have learned that when it comes to allergies, it seems like nothing is off the table. I have known people that are allergic or sensitive to all sorts of things that they are told they 'shouldn't be allergic to'.
