Mental health struggles with allergies

As someone who deals with several chronic health conditions, one of the biggest struggles has always been mental health. I experience depression, anxiety, among other things, and often can’t tell what comes first… kind of like the chicken or the egg analogy, sometimes I feel like my mental health triggers allergy symptoms, but I also struggle as a result of them. It gets so frustrating as it sometimes just feels like a never ending cycle. Does anyone else relate?

What are some of your struggles in regards to mental health and dealing with allergies? Do you have any coping strategies or tips?

I’ve written an article specifically on anxiety before - https://allergies.net/living/anxiety-stress, however it goes much deeper than that and I know many of us struggle with other mental health issues as well, so I’m curious to hear any experiences or anything you’d like to share in regards to this topic. 😀

  1. The way my allergies aggravate my mental health is in how they keep me awake at night from all the sludge even though I take a bunch of stuff for them. It makes my depression worse and makes it so I don't want to do hardly anything.

    1. That must really take a toll on you, not being able to get a good night's sleep. I'm so sorry to hear your allergies have impacted your mental health this way! May I ask if you've talked to a doctor and/or therapist about your experience? -Alexa (Allergies.net moderator)
