Sea Moss Seaweed & Seafood Allergies

I have Atopic Allergies, including Atopic Dermatitis. I've been allergic to all-things seafood since childhood. For the last few years, I am receiving desensitizing injections. I also have high blood pressure and have been on amlodipine (Norvasc) for more than 10 years. I've been seeing infomercials informing that Sea Moss & Seaweed consumption can promote improved blood flow, and so enable HBP people to wean themselves of of HBP medication. But can Sea Moss and/or Seaweed trigger a reaction for people who are allergic to seafood?

  1. Hi, ! I have to admit that I have never even thought about eating seaweed or sea moss if you have a shellfish allergy. If you haven't done so already, I would definitely ask your doctor or allergist this question. I did a little digging and it looks like consuming some types of seaweed *may* be safe, but I would proceed with extreme caution. Kombu seaweed (dried brown kelp) may be safe. Then again, some of the more reputable companies that sell seaweed/seamoss products caution against people with seafood allergies from consuming their products. It may be to cover any potential liability on their part, but, honestly, it must be hard to ensure that no contaminants linger on a product that grows in the ocean. Possibly, farm raised seamoss/weed/algae could be an option for you. It may not pack the same nutritional punch, but it may possibly be a safer option to explore.
