Sensitivity to guar/locust bean gum etc?

A member of our family is allergic to a lot of legumes, and after doing a bit of research we think they might also be allergic/intolerant to foods containing Guar Gum & Locust Bean Gum since they are derived from plants/trees that belong to the legume family.

We've noticed they tend to itch less when they don't eat foods with those gums in them.

Is this quite common? Does anyone else here react to gums from leguminous plants? It's a nightmare because a lot of foods contain gums like this!

  1. Hi, !

I am not aware of a member of this community that has shared about a sensitivity/allergy to guar gum or locust bean gum. That doesn't mean they aren't here; they just might not have shared this part of their story. I believe that allergies to guar gum and locust bean gum are not too common, but I may be wrong about that. And, for individuals with a strong legume allergy, it is not outside the realm of possibility that they would also be allergic to other products in the legume family.

I'm sorry I can't offer any personal perspective on this topic and I hope if any member of this community has experienced a similar allergic response to guar gum and locust bean gum, they will chime in here.
