Surprise Allergies

My mom and one of my sisters had allergies and asthma. By age 24, I had yet to have any allergic reactions.

In 1979 I was working very close to the Three Mile Island nuclear plant when it went into partial meltdown.

Within a year, I gained 100 pounds, became allergic to many things, and felt terrible. After ten years of battles with doctors, I was diagnosed with thyroid cancer, diabetes, asthma, arthritis, fibromyalgia, and many allergies.

I am allergic to late AND early trees, anything green, birds, cats, dogs, fungi, mold, and many asthma medications. I do not have a rescue inhaler because I am allergic to Alupent and albuterol!

  1. Thank you for sharing your story with us. You've certainly been through a lot, and I'm so sorry to hear about your years of health battles. Having allergies on top of everything must be a lot to manage. May I ask what treatment plan you have in place for your allergies? Being allergic to asthma medications must make things really complicated. -Alexa (Allergies.net moderator)
