reaction to Fasenra

I began this biologic drug, and the load (3 doses) went fine, and I was feeling much better when I had my next injection, approx. 2 hours later, I reacted with bad chest pain that radiated to my jaws, The test at emergency room went fine, but I was referred to a cardiologist that has now also wants further heart test. Of course they are taking me off this med. Has anyone else had this reaction, as I can't find it listed anywhere on possible reactions. I'd also like to continue the drug if my heart test are o.k.

  1. Hi, !

First off, I am so sorry you experienced such a adverse reaction to the biologic! I am not familiar with the biologic you mention, but we do have a sister site dedicated to Asthma and Fasenra is sometimes used to treat asthma. You can read a bit about it here -- https://asthma.net/treatment/fasenra-benralizumab. One of the members of that community shared that Fasenra was not a good fit for her -- https://asthma.net/stories/perspective. And this community member seemed to have a slightly similar experience to yours -- https://asthma.net/forums/fasenra-for-eosenophillic-ashma. You may find the Asthma community to be a bit more active than this one and you are always welcome to check it out.

I hope your heart is okay and that your doctor is able to find another medication that works well without the scary side effects!

    1. , I hope the testing goes smoothly and that the results give you and your doctor some clear direction as to how to proceed with your treatment. And, I hear you about those strong steroids. My husband has severe asthma and psoriasis and it seems he is unable to avoid long term steroid usage for long, despite those scary side effects!

Good luck and feel free to offer an update, if you feel comfortable doing so.
