i have very bad seasonal allergies the question i have is mine mess badly with my mental health i cant think straight u dont care if u live r die and it gets u very depressed and it just exhaust me no energy and gumption to do anything . I would like to hear from people with my same situation and tell me how u treat it

  1. Hi am going through the same and all I want to do is lay down. It has me nervous because it effects my anxiety

    1. , I hear you. My oldest child (now an adult) struggles with anxiety, so as much as I can understand, I do know how easily one's anxiety spiral can get triggered. I replied to you on another thread, so apologies if I am repeating myself here. If you have a therapist, they may be able to help you come up with some coping skills or mantras to help when you feel that anxiety spiking.

It's okay to listen to your body. Allergies can be really draining and if you need to rest, you need to rest. I don't know if this will help with your anxiety, but you can tell yourself, "I am listening to my body. I am doing the right thing. My allergies will pass and by listening to my body, I am helping my body and myself."

Again, if you do have a therapist, please don't hesitate to bring this up with them!

  2. Hi, !

First off, I am so sorry you deal with depression. I also struggle with depression and know it can feel pretty oppressive. While my depression is not tied to allergies, my husband and one of my children deal with severe allergies and flares of those allergies can really negatively impact their mental health. Please know you are not alone in this! One of our health leaders wrote about the connection between allergies and depression in this piece -- https://allergies.net/living/depression-link. The same health leader started a conversation in our forums on this topic as well -- https://allergies.net/forums/mental-health-struggles-with-allergies-3. Also, here's some basic resources for mental health, if you are interested -- https://allergies.net/mental-health/general-resources. I do hope you have emotional support as you manage your mental health. Do you experience times when your allergies are more manageable? Do you find yourself less depressed during those times?

Again, please know you are not alone in this. Millions and millions of people deal with depression and even more deal with all types of allergies. I think the biggest lie depression tells us is that we are alone in this. And that is most definitely NOT the case. I hope the links I provided help a little bit. Please don't hesitate to reach out if you have any questions or are just needing some support!

    1. can you tell me if other people are going through these bad allergies I feel brain fog please give me some insight

      Thank
      You

    2. , I know we are getting into the high allergy season if you struggle with Spring allergies. I am not too far from you (North Central Indiana), so I know the pollen counts are sky rocketing! I don't personally experience brain fog with my allergies, but my husband does, as does one of my sons. They tend to have more severe allergies and they can definitely notice a difference in their mental sharpness on some days. It can be annoying, but the fog does always pass for them. And, sometimes, OTC allergy meds and some extra caffeine help, but each person needs to find what works best for them.
